How to Read the Heisman Trophy Odds

Quarterback Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma has been tabbed the early Heisman Trophy betting favorite at 3/1 odds (Bet $100 to win $300) per BetMGM.

That's always been a common trend with this award, but 2020 saw things play out different. Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith surged late in the season and won the award, with some bettors cashing tickets as high as 50/1 odds.

Despite Smith’s emergence, the large majority of the early Heisman favorites for the 2021 season are quarterbacks. The current Heisman favorite at BetMGM is Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, who is.

  1. Quarterbacks Spencer Rattler (Oklahoma), Sam Ehlinger (Texas), and Jamie Newman (Georgia) round out the Top 5 favorites before running backs Travis Etienne (Clemson) and Chuba Hubbard (Oklahoma.
  2. Apologies for being predictable and putting the early favorite at No. 1 on the list, but, well, there's a reason Spencer Rattler is the early favorite. There were some minor growing pains early on.
  3. While the offseason just began for most of these young men, early 2020 Heisman odds provide a potential edge heading into the year. Kedon Slovis – USC – Quarterback (+1000).
  4. With Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith taking home the 2020 Hesiman Trophy award, oddsmakers are already looking ahead to 2021. In the opening 2021 Heisman odds, Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler has been pegged as the early frontrunner.

Along with Rattler, this year's 2021 Heisman Trophy Odds contenders include the below players and they're all quarterbacks.

  • D.J. Uiagalelei (Clemson) +500
  • JT Daniels (Georgia) +600
